Think of English as your native language and speak in English as confidently as you are when speaking in your native language.

Practicing how to speak English is very important because it helps you reach a high fluency in English.

People like people who are confident and able to speak in their non-native language.

However, you need to work on all your English skills, including grammar, vocabulary, listening and pronunciation skills.

Then you will feel more confident in your English speaking skills.

Pick the tip that suits you best and use it to develop your speaking skills further!


1.      Read texts out loud.

The more you practice reading out loud, the better will your pronunciation be.

If you are nervous about speaking in front of others, find a story that you like and read it out loud. While reading it, try to imagine that you are standing in front of many people and read it out to them.

The more you practice this, the more confident will you be next time that you have to speak in front of someone.


2.      Join your friends learning English and start an English-speaking club.

If you have some friends learning English, you can start your own club and organize meetings at which you will be talking only in English.

That’s a great way to work on your speaking. You won’t feel embarrassed because you will be surrounded with your friends, not some people you don’t know.


3.      Join my Facebook group and find a partner to practice speaking with.

In my Facebook group  you have a chance to talk to people all around the world which are also learning English.

Connect with as many people as you wish and use your English every day.

Try to set up a schedule and talk online, for example, on Skype, and use your English.


4.      Practice speaking what you hear.

Watch a TV show and practice your speaking. You can pause the video and then repeat what you heard.

This is also a great way to work on your pronunciation. Use the mimicking technique and imitate the sounds that you hear.

Soon you will see that, not also your pronunciation, but also your speaking skills have improved significantly.


5.      Join online conversation groups.

There are many websites that enable you to join online conversation groups with both native and non-native speakers.

Try to find a native speaker of English and practice speaking with them.

Practicing speaking with native speakers can be very helpful because they can correct you if you make a mistake, but also, you can learn many new words, idioms or proverbs from them.

What would have happened if Alfredo had followed these tips?

Well, he wouldn’t be anxious when speaking English.

He would have been able to speak English confidently and his colleagues would have been impressed with his fluency and knowledge of English.
