Remember, English language has different future forms, used for expressing ideas about the future. One of them is the Future I Progressive.

Like the name itself says, the Future I Progressive is used to say that something will be in progress at a particular moment in the future.

When it comes to its form and use, it can’t be any simpler. :)

FORM

The Future I Progressive is will be + ing-form of the main verb.

 

I will be staying here long.

We can also use shall in the first person.

 

  • To make a positive sentence we have:

the subject + will + be + ing-form of the main verb + the object

I will be staying here long.

 

  • To make a negative sentence we have:

the subject + will + not + be + ing-form of the main verb + the object

I will not be staying here long.

 

We can contract will not to won’t.

  • To make an interrogative sentence we have:

Will + the subject + be + ing-form of the main verb + the object

Will I be staying here long?

 

USE

I’m going to mention the most general uses of the Future I Progressive:

 We can use the Future I Progressive to say that something will be in progress at a particular moment in the future.

This time tomorrow I will be drinking cocktails with my friends.

You can also sometimes use the Future I Progressive with a phrase of time to talk about an action going on over a whole period.

I will be working all day tomorrow.

We use the Future I Progressive to refer to a future event which is the result of a routine, an arrangement or a schedule.

Taylor Swift will be arriving in five minutes’ time. – Her arrival in five minutes is part of her schedule.

 We can also use the Future I Progressive to ask politely about someone’s plans.
