Today we will be looking at the Future II Simple

WHY USE THE FUTURE II SIMPLE?

The Future II Simple is also known as the Future Perfect. We use the Future II Simple to express future ideas before some future time.

How to form and use the Future II Simple?

FORM

The Future II Simple is will have + past participle of the main verb.

I will have completed my studies by the time I’m twenty-four.

We can also use shall in the first person.

To make a positive sentence we have:

the subject + will have + past participle of the main verb + the object

I will have completed my studies by the time I’m twenty-four.

To make a negative sentence we have:

the subject + will have + past participle of the main verb + the object

I will not have completed my studies by the time I’m twenty-four.

*We can contract will not to won’t.

To make an interrogative sentence we have:

Will + the subject + have + past participle of the main verb + the object

Will I have completed my studies by the time I’m twenty-four?

USE

I’m going to mention 2 most general uses of the Future II Simple:

1.    The Future II Simple is used to talk about something being finished at a time in the future.

By the time you get home, I will have finished the dinner.

 

2.    We can use the Future II Simple to express an assumption about the past.

You will have met my boyfriend – he went to high school with you.
